The Company
Lightning Internet Ltd was formed in February 2003 with the goal of providing quality hosting solutions for a reasonable cost, with a commitment to customer service. We are a firm believer in the "keep it simple" philosophy, as many companies tend to over-complicate Internet services.
It is our intention to develop a solid reputation within the hosting industry and to slowly expand with a range of innovative services.
Lightning Internet Ltd is a privately owned company, self-funded by its shareholders. We have no debt and are cash positive. Registered in England and Wales, number 04656139.
UK Infrastructure
Our core infrastructure is housed in the Redbus III facility in London's Docklands area. This data centre boasts the following features:
- 50,000 sq ft hosting space spread across 5 floors with 350mm raised floors
- 6 No 2000 KVA Rotary UPS/Generators
- Close control downflow air conditioning units to guarantee stable temperature and humidity @ N+1
- 2 independent AC chilled water systems @ N+1
- 8.0 MVA of UPS conditioned power @ N+1
- Diverse power supplies with diesel generator backup @ N+1
- Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA) installed
- Smoke detection facility
- MIST fire suppression system
- CCTV system covering all entrances/exits and main areas
- 24-hour video recording
- Full perimeter alarm
- PAC security card access system
- Visual verification of all persons entering the data floor
Our network has been designed with performance, reliability and security in mind - ensuring you receive the maximum uptime possible. Each of our racks contains Cisco switches which are dual uplinked to our provider's Foundry core switches for redundancy. External IP connectivity is a premium blend of transit from Avensys, Level 3, PCCW BtN and Telecomplete. In addition, literally hundreds of direct peering agreements help ensure that traffic is routed over the most optimal path possible. US Infrastructure
Our shared hosting servers are located in the world class EV1 facility in Texas, USA. This state of the art data centre employs all the latest data centre technologies for security, fire suppression, uninterruptible power supply, generator backup, air conditioning and smoke detection.
Network connectivity is provided by no less than 19 Gigabit Ethernet connections from 6 separate backbone providers, who each run fibre optic cable into the data centre using diverse routes.
We use only quality Dell branded servers with Intel CPUs. For stability we have chosen Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES v3 as our underlying operating system. Red Hat's RHN facility allows us to keep our servers updated against vulnerabilities whilst maintaining a stable operating base. We have chosen Ensim Pro v4 as our preferred control panel, as we believe it offers the best combination of features, ease of use and security.
